FOR AUTOMATION AGENCIES & BUSINESS TEAMS

n8n security
audit.

From $6,000 USD · Scope your audit ↗

Check what your automations can expose, change or send on someone else’s behalf.

Independent testing of your n8n workflows, webhooks, credentials and connected systems. Identify paths to unauthorized actions or customer data, with verified findings, prioritized fixes and a retest.

01 / WHAT WE ASSESS

Follow the workflow.
Check its authority.

A workflow’s name does not tell you what its credentials can do. We map the entry points, connected systems and permitted actions, then test the boundaries that matter to your business.

01

Instance & administration

Authentication, available roles, environment boundaries and customer-owned hosting. Review administrator access and deployment configuration where in scope.

02

Webhooks & triggers

Caller verification, customer binding, replay handling and permitted actions. Trace incoming data to the operation performed in the connected service.

03

Credentials & integrations

Credential permissions, ownership, sharing and rotation. Examine whether access remains after contractor or client offboarding.

04

Client isolation

Shared workflows, infrastructure, operational records and backups. Test the boundary between clients against the way you actually operate the deployment.

05

Custom nodes & execution

Code, custom and community nodes, outbound connections and reachable internal services. Review the capabilities available to workflow editors.

06

AI actions & operational data

Where AI steps are used, test untrusted inputs, tool permissions and approval gates. Review retained execution data, error paths and recovery access.

We assess your implementation and explicitly authorized assets. Provider infrastructure and unrelated third-party systems are outside scope. Test data, permitted actions and operational limits are agreed before testing.

02 / TEST THE BUSINESS RULES

Check the action.
Understand the consequence.

Authorized actions

Can a valid event trigger an action for the wrong client?

Follow customer, record and action identifiers through the workflow. Verify authorization independently of source authentication.

Agency access

Can one client’s workflow reach another client’s systems?

Check the deployed credential, workflow and administration boundaries using separately authorized test data.

AI tool permissions

Can an untrusted message change what the agent is allowed to do?

Test controlled inputs against recipient restrictions, permitted tools, transaction limits and human approval steps.

The review combines relevant platform guidance, configuration and source review where agreed, and manual testing. We record what was tested, what was unavailable and what remains outside the assessment.

03 / WHAT YOU RECEIVE

Findings your team can act on.

01

Workflow access map

Important triggers, connected systems, credentials and the actions they can perform.

02

Verified findings & evidence

Reproducible failures, affected workflows and business consequences, with sensitive data redacted.

03

Practical remediation priorities

Changes to authorization, credentials, isolation and operational controls, plus relevant revocation recommendations.

04

Findings walkthrough & retest

A session with your team and one retest of reported findings within 30 days, inside the agreed scope.

From $6,000 USD

One application or agreed environment, with a bounded set of features and integrations. One retest of reported findings within 30 days of report delivery is included.

What changes the price?

  • Number and complexity of important workflows
  • Connected systems and credential permissions
  • Client environments and isolation boundaries
  • Self-hosted infrastructure and custom nodes
  • AI actions, source access and test integrations

Larger environments and multiple applications are quoted separately. Remediation implementation, recurring monitoring and new features are separate work unless included in your proposal.

Your proposal sets the test window and report date. Timing depends on scope and access readiness.

06 / WORKING TOGETHER

A clear route from scope to retest.

01

Scope the important paths

Share your architecture, roles, integrations and deadline. We agree targets, permissions, test accounts and safe operating limits.

02

Test and document

Review the agreed controls and test the relevant failure cases. We escalate urgent findings and document reproducible evidence.

03

Review and verify

Walk through the report, assign remediation priorities and use the included retest to check reported findings after correction.

07 / BEFORE YOU START

Your questions, answered.

How much does an n8n security audit cost?

Engagements start at $6,000 USD for an agreed environment and a bounded selection of important workflows and integrations. We confirm a fixed price after reviewing the scope. Multiple client environments and larger portfolios are quoted separately.

How is this different from the built-in n8n audit?

The native audit is useful for common configuration risks. Our agreed scope adds manual testing of customer-specific permissions, client isolation, credential authority and the business actions performed by workflows.

Can you assess both n8n Cloud and self-hosted deployments?

We can review your workflows and authorized integrations in either model. Customer-owned hosting can be included for self-hosted deployments. n8n’s own infrastructure and unrelated third-party systems are outside scope. Applicable provider testing rules must be respected.

Can an automation agency commission this for several clients?

Yes. Each client environment, authorization boundary and reporting requirement must be identified in the proposal. We can agree separate customer-facing summaries without exposing another client’s information.

Can testing include AI agents and payment workflows?

Yes, when specifically scoped. We use controlled inputs and test integrations to review tool permissions, approval gates, action limits and transaction handling. We agree safety limits before any active testing.

What is included after the report?

You receive a findings walkthrough, remediation guidance and one retest of reported findings within 30 days of report delivery. Implementing fixes, recurring monitoring and new workflows are separate unless included in the proposal.
